Memories – Friday lunch

Describe your dream chocolate bar.

If I could make my dream chocolate bar it would taste like a specific cake that I have not had since my elementary school days.

I grew up in rural Oklahoma and on my tribal reservation. I lived with my grandparents and they did not have a lot of money but they made sure we had enough, there wasn’t much leftover for extras.

While I lived there I attended this rural school that housed kindergarten to the 8th grade. It was called Happy Valley. Once you finished the 8th grade then you would go off to one of town’s high school depending on where you lived.

This particular elementary school had been attended by most of my relatives. I loved that school and the building still stands. They had a reunion last year at the school but I was unable to attend.

The fondest memories I had were of the lunch ladies at the school. They were always so nice to me. They would sometimes give me extras if I asked.

My favorite part of the week was Fridays. We had hamburgers, chocolate milk, and chocolate cake on Fridays. None of the kids brought their lunches from home on that day.

The chocolate cake was so delicious, my mind remembers the chocolate smell and the taste. It was a cross between a brownie and a cake.

The texture was sort of gooey with this thick chocolate icing glaze. It was cut into these 4 by 4 squares. I remember that so vividly. Those Friday lunches were the best.

I tried several years ago to find out if anyone knew what the recipe was for that cake but could not find anything. I have tried several cakes that were supposed to be similar but it was not the same.

If they made a candy bar that recreated that cake, there would be many people here who would stock up on it.

A fond memory of a great chocolate cake.

Thank you for stopping by.

Have a great week!

Peace, love, happiness, and good vibes, always!

Suzanne
