Nothing but cake

What foods would you like to make?

I had always been the family baker.

Whether it was learning to make my grandma’s biscuits or my other grandma’s tall fluffy meringue pies, it became my passion.

Then I discovered cake decorating in 2008.

It happened quite by accident but in retrospect I actually had dabbled in it before that. I was terrible at it but I learned how to do it better.

I became the “cake lady” to family and friends.

Birthday’s, anniversary’s, retirements, weddings, holidays, and any other celebration of life events. I was the one to call for that special occasion.

Then I started teaching and entering competitions. That took my skills to another level. I had so much fun.

Cake decorating also helped me through my deepest depression and darkest moments. It became my saving grace.

I haven’t done a cake or entered a competition in over 5 years now, sidelined by life in the beginning then a shoulder injury. I haven’t recovered my hand, it’s no longer steady.

I still fawn over pictures and the amazing cake artists out there. That bit of happiness is still there.

My mouth waters at the thought of making a gooey, rich chocolate cake with silky chocolate frosting. Maybe a few sprinkles, strawberries, or a piped rose on top.

I still have the creative mind but the skills will need some work to try and recover them.

Maybe, one day, I will attempt it again, for now I will drink my morning coffee, read through my cake decorating books, reminisce with my pictures, and daydream about the perfect cake.

Thank you for your time and stopping by.

Have a great week!

Suzanne
