What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in?

I saw this prompt and it was thought provoking.
I am at the age and point in life where there are still many years ahead of me.
There are many years ahead of me and I feel that I am still capable of being a useful contributor to society. Even though I feel this way mentally, physically, I am tired and just want an easy daily life.
The one notion that is a constant in my life is the idealistic views on justice in society. I am not talking about retribution but I think there does need to be more people out there working and helping the “average Joe”. The people that may be unaware of their rights as not only citizens but consumers as well.
That is what the whole legal system has been built upon, “Making the person or entity, whole again from losses they have sustained.” This is the basic difference between civil and criminal law. Criminal law focuses on a violation of a local or federal law or statute.
If I was to start a new career, it most likely would be to become a lawyer with a focus on environmental, labor, or corporate law.
Interest in this field of work has been a part of my degree program from the beginning. My current degree program is a dual bachelors degree in General Business and Management with a pre-law option. I have completed two minors in Human Resources and Marketing as well.
I have taken several business law related classes to include international contracts and environmental law. I have also taken ethics, philosophy, and psychology classes as well. I think all of these are important to understanding people and how they think or react to things.
If I was to pin it down to one specific field it would be Tribal Law. This is due to the underrepresentation of indigenous groups when it pertains to not only their sovereignty under their treaty rights but how they navigate the corporate structure and system.
The second field of interest is labor law and employees understanding their rights not only within their states but what their company’s or organizations are supposed to follow under federal guidelines.
While taking the psychology and management courses as well as when interacting with career counselors they would administer personality tests to determine our learning and thinking personality types also possible career paths.
In one such test, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test, it stated my type was INFJ also known as the “Advocate” or “Idealist” personality type.
Per a Google search the following was a breakdown of this personality type from the Myers-Briggs website:
Characterized by the following traits:
- Introverted: Energized by spending time alone.
- Intuitive: Focused on understanding ideas and concepts.
- Feeling: Led by their values and intuition.
- Judging: Firm decision makers.
Other characteristics of INFJs include:
- Compassionate: Passionate about helping others.
- Idealistic: Believe the world can be a better place.
- Empathetic: A deep understanding of others’ emotions and motivations.
- Quiet leaders: Seen as quiet leaders who fight for what they believe in.
- Perfectionistic: High expectations and can be challenging to satisfy.
- Creative: Embrace their creative side and look for opportunities to express themselves
The career inventory testing always came up with a position in some sort of business administration or legal related field. Ironically, military service was always listed as a possible career too. I found that amusing considering I retired from the military after 20 years of service.
My kids believe it is never too late to learn something new and try to encourage me to pursue the legal career field but I am not sure if I am mentally up to that challenge. I have the time and military benefits that may help me finish a degree. It is more about willingness and the desire to pursue it.
There are days when I get all fired up over something that is occurring in the world and I want justice to prevail. Then there are days when I wake up after a restless sleep wanting nothing but a cup of coffee, a nap, and to watch movies all day. It is never the same feeling or thoughts every day.
I have apparently been writing on this topic since mid October. It is time to wrap this up and finally post it.
Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog.
Have a wonderful week!
Peace, love, happiness, and good vibes, always!
