How do you use social media?

Hello, yes it is me again. Another sleepless night.

Interesting prompt and it made me think about how and why I started using it.

I did not come online and start using social media until around 2017. I started this blog but had only posted a few times back then. I was still learning.

Interestingly enough, I actually began using social media because of therapy. It was meant to be used as a creative outlet. The same as this blog.

I had a Facebook account that I used to keep in contact with family and relatives but rarely used it. I then shut it down after having an online fight with my parents and siblings before parting ways from that toxic relationship, that first time. Everyone is blocked now and I changed it.

I started an Instagram account and within a couple of months, I was posting daily random pics. I got up to over 1500 followers but then the messages from scammers became overwhelming. I shut it down and stayed off for a while before coming back.

That second time is when I made the account private and only have a handful of followers left from the first account. I have also become very picky about who I follow or who I allow to follow me.

I originally went on to social media seeking inspiration from the world around us. I was more into cake decorating and sugar art back then. I was following a lot of pastry chefs, sugar artists, and cake decorators from around the world.

Nowadays, I seek out pictures of faraway places, artwork, photography, writers, artists, and nature. All the while seeking out positive affirmations and inspiration. I share what I create as well.

I eventually made three separate accounts. Writing, beadwork, and every day musings.

It is the place I go when I need a boost to my creative thoughts.

It is the place I roam when I just need to think about nothing sometimes. The endless scrolling into that void of banality often helps just the same as binge watching television or playing video games.

It is the place where my children and I keep in touch with each other. We share our life experiences there.

It is the place where I met my person all those years ago and where we met back up again after the pandemic that separated us.

Social media. It can be a useful tool to connect and communicate with the rest of humanity. It can also entice you into that world where there are too many rabbit holes to explore. You just have to proceed with caution.

Thank you for stopping by.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Peace, love, happiness, and good vibes, always!

Suzanne

  1. Hey Suzanne, thanks for sharing your social media journey! It’s fascinating how it started as a creative outlet through therapy and evolved into various accounts reflecting different aspects of your life. Social media truly can be a mixed bag of inspiration and distractions, but it sounds like you’ve found a balance that works for you. Wishing you a weekend filled with creativity, connection, and positive vibes!
